DETROIT (Tell Us Det) – Emotions ran high in of Detroit. Saturday morning as thousands of cancer survivors, their families and friends gathered for the 21st Annual Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure.

Race co-chair Katrina Studvent told the media its a celebration of those who’ve survived cancer, but also remembers loved ones and friends that have lost their battle.

Komen Detroit Race for the Cure (R), is locally presented by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute. It Includes a competitive 5K Run, a 5K Walk and a 1-Mile Walk.

Last year the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure® awarded $1,475,000 to local breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs as a result of $2.3 million raised in the 2011 Komen Detroit Race for the Cure®, locally presented by the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute.

Because the race lands on a holiday weekend, supporters are encouraged to take a picture of themselves wearing their Race for the Cure T-shirt — or wearing pink — wherever they are vacationing. Then people can send those pictures along with a donation to the Susan G. Komen Detroit Race for the Cure website.
